Cleaning Barrels with Dry Ice Blasting

Because dry ice blasting methods do not use water, there is less chance for bacterial infection. Traditional cleaning methods may leave residue behind, which allows bacteria to grow deep in the wood. Traditional methods also use a large amount of water -- up to 25 gallons per barrel.
Dry ice blasting solutions may remove the outermost layer of the barrel's wood. However, this process removes any hidden mold spores, while exposing fresh wood.
